Polymer Services People
Randy Prater
Randy Prater is a native of western Kansas, and attended Fort Hays State University, majoring in journalism/communications. He has been involved in the oilfield service industry since 1977. Randy Prater is the owner and consultant of Polymer Services, LLC, and has been actively in charge of all operations of a technology based service company specializing in the field applications of polymer gel systems for Improved/Enhanced Oil Recovery for the last 20 years. Mr. Prater came into the business with much experience from the oilfield positions that he held previously.
Randy's gamut of experience started off with an entry-level position for Great Guns, Inc. as an operator of a wireline logging and perforating unit. It then continued as he was employed by Halliburton Energy Services. Here he gained extensive knowledge in all phases of oil well cementing and stimulation. He gained the capabilities of designing cement and acid stimulation jobs to fit any well conditions or requirements as well as becoming knowledgeable in DST chart interpretation and basic log calculations. Randy went on to be a sales engineer for a nine county area for the Tretolite division of Petrolite Corp. with duties including but not limited to surveying oil and gas leases to determine chemical treating requirements. Keyway International is where Randy gained the expertise in designing and building the hot oil units known as the APD9SK Offshore Oil heating Unit, which is now in use on many offshore production platforms worldwide. The comprehension of all the different areas of studies within the oilfield is what has led Randy to such a successful business within the Improved/Enhanced Oil Recovery division of the field.
Randy has been designing and running polymer treatments since July of 1989. He began as a district manager for Enhancement services before purchasing the company in 1993. He was in charge of sales, marketing, engineering and operations. Polymer Systems Inc., was then born. From 1993 to 2002 Randy ran his business out of an office in his home. He designed and implemented treatments for the control of excessive water production in oil or gas wells, injection profile, and permeability modification treatments for waterflood injection wells, control of lost circulation, and thief zones.
Polymer Systems was then turned into Polymer Services, LLC after the oilfield started its upward trend in 2002. Mr. Prater currently employs 9 full time employees, and is still very active in the oilfield industry.
